Privacy matters. Privacy is not just for criminals, it’s for all of us. Without privacy, it’s impossible to protect the things that are important to you.

Having personal and financial privacy protects us from a multitude of predatory behaviours including theft, fraud, front running, aggressive consumer targeting and data harvesting.

Over the past decade or so, as we’ve moved into a fully digital online world, our privacy has increasingly been encroached upon. To the point that everything we do has some element of surveillance.

Many now realise the internet is broken, and without a fully peer to peer decentralised protocol it’s unlikely to ever be fixed. Surveillance and data collection is incredibly profitable for those controlling the systems. Why would big tech and other entities fix something that works incredibly well for them and allows them to capture and front run every aspect of what happens in the digital domain?

For the last 10 years, Decred has worked to build tools that bring sovereignty and privacy back to individuals. One of the latest iterations to these tools includes a fully peer to peer mechanism for financial privacy that doesn’t require centralised servers, intermediaries, or rent seeking middle men. Transaction privacy is now in the hands of all Decred used.

Decred’s privacy mixing, stakeshuffle, runs directly in the users' wallet and communicates with the anonymity set by maintains its own mixing communications. This process, as of Decred 2.0, is now fully decentralised and as said previously, there are no centralised servers facilitating this process.

Your Decred wallet connects independently to other peers that are conducting privacy transactions. Coordination, communication, and messaging is all maintained directly with the peers. The anonymity set for these transactions is incredibly high, approximately 60% of the coin supply.

Every element, tool, and service on the Decred platform can now be run independently by all individuals. Decred is working hard to build a future where individuals take back control of every aspect of their online lives.
